Nearby Attractions

The small village of Neemrana in Alwar, Rajasthan, may not actually be a renowned tourist attraction of Rajasthan on its own, but since it is the base place from where one can explore many nearby attractions, it is much sought after by the tourists.

But before we proceed to other attractions, let’s talk about the majestic Neemrana Fort, perhaps, the lone attraction of Neemrana. The Neemrana Fort perched on a plateau, and surrounded by a horse-shoe formation of the Aravalli Mountains has now been converted into the wonderful Neemrana Fort Heritage Hotel.

Vinay Vilas Mahal: This 18th century Vinay Vilas Mahal, also called the City Palace, used to be the residence of the rulers of the state of Alwar. The palace is a lovely blend of Rajasthani and Mughul architecture. The gold and velvet throne in the Durbar Hall, the murals, mirror decoration, and the collection of weapons in the museum of the palace are worth seeing. The miniature paintings of the Alwar School are the other attractions pf the palace.

Bala Quila (Fort): Located above the City Palace, this medieval fort literally towers above the city, on a hillock. This huge structure has several towers. The fort had given shelter to several Mughul princes during their journeys or exiles.

Sariska National Park: One of the well- known wildlife destinations of India, the Sariska National Park was earlier the hunting grounds of the rulers of Alwar. Located 40 kilometers away from Alwar, the Sariska National Park can be easily visited. The pride of the national park are the Royal Bengal Tiger, leopard, jungle cat, Nilgai, Sambhar, four-horned antelope, hyena, besides crocodile. Many types of birds can also be seen in this national park.

Siliserh Lake: A lovely picnic spot situated 13 kilometers south west of Alwar, Siliserh Lake has an area of 10.5 square kilometers and is a wonderful spot for an interesting excursion from Neemrana. Now a heritage hotel, the Lake palace at the Siliserh Lake was built in 1845 by Maharaja Vinay Singh for his wife.
